The painting celebrates the arrival of the double hulled sailing canoe Hokule'a, on her triumphant return to Honolulu in 1976. The successful voyage to Tahiti and back proved once and for all that the early Polynesians were able to travel thousands of miles across the sea using only the Sun, Stars, and waves to navigate by.
